Christopher Plantin, Polyglot Printer of AntwerpThis title is no longer available from the Roland Collection. Details remain on this site for the reference of previous customers.
Christopher Plantin's successful printing and publishing business, founded in Antwerp in the 1560s, brought together many scholars, linguists and theologians and produced a wide range of scholarly books including the highly complex Polyglot (or `many language version') Bible. We tour the Plantin Moretus Museum and find that, in the sensitive political and religious climate of Antwerp at the time, printing was not only lucrative and full of exciting technical innovations, but sometimes dangerous as well. |
