LithographyThis video-based learning package is a practical guide to the creation of lithographic prints. It is intended for artists wishing to become involved in printmaking and who need to understand the basic principles of lithography. The programme covers both stone and zinc plates and features Harvey Daniels, who was head of the printmaking course at the University of Brighton for many years. He prints simple images off both stone and metal plates. Aspects of lithography covered include the preparation of the stone and plates, graining and `prepping,' making marks on the surface, etching, gumming, and printing off direct and offset presses. Multicolored printing and the collaboration with a commercial printer are also shown. The accompanying booklet, written by Ann d'Arcy Hughes, expands on the processes shown in the video and offers a useful comparison between those used on plates and on stones. |
