If Brains Were DynamiteThe Sculpture of Mark Prent Central to this film which investigates the work of controversial young Canadian artist Mark Prent are the legal and moral issues that arise when a gallery attempts to exhibit work that certain sectors of the public find offensive, or in bad taste. Prent's deliberately `shock-horror' installations feature realistic life-casts of lashed, lacerated bodies and severed limbs. We hear the artist, his dealer and the scholarly supporters of his work speaking out in his defence, and describing the hostility which eventually led Prent to seek artistic asylum in Germany's less censorious art world. `...provides an interesting look at the creative process, and it is also timely in its presentation of the question of government support for controversial, other-than-mainstream art. The technical quality is very good. Recommended for art library collections and for library media collections dealing with social issues.'
