London, Center of the World's Art Trade

Produced with the enthusiastic co-operation of selected London art dealers, this film was directed by a dealer turned film-maker. Not surprisingly, therefore, it offers a privileged view of the art trade not usually accessible to the public. This fascinating subject is treated in an intimate manner, conveying the mounting excitement at an auction as well as behind-the-scenes discussions among dealers. Rare works of art are seen in some of the better-known galleries, in contrast with less expensive items in the street markets. Included in the film are works of art by Veronese, Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Largillière, Boucher, Fragonard, Turner, Sisley, Pissarro, Degas, Monet, Bonnard, Kokoschka, Sutherland, and Henry Moore. Also featured are Greek and Persian pottery and French and English eighteenth-century furniture.
