Jim Stirling's Architecture

James Stirling, born in 1926, was one of the few British architects of this century to receive undisputed recognition, even though he was regarded as a rebel, and worked outside the mainstream of modern architecture. His completed projects in Britain include the History Faculty at Cambridge University; Leicester University Engineering Department; Queen's Building, Oxford, and mass construction housing at Runcorn. In the film we see six of his major schemes completed in the United Kingdom, while Stirling explains his personal philosophy, its democratic roots and his respect for the individual.
