The International Exhibition of Arts, Paris 1925This title is no longer available from the Roland Collection. Details remain on this site for the reference of previous customers.
The International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, to give it its full title, was a curious mixture. Many of the commercial and national pavilions displayed both avant-garde and more conventional design, often with an emphasis on craftsmanship and exotic materials. Two buildings were outstanding: Melnikov's Russian Pavilion, and Le Corbusier's Esprit Nouveau Pavilion. Hidden away in a less than prominent position, this `cellular living unit' was made of simple industrial materials and was completely free of decoration. Infinitely extendable, it brought the latest technology to bear on the problem of mass housing. |
