One Hundred Years of Modern Art, Part OneThis film gives a rudimentary `exposure' to a broad range of art for young audiences. It offers a survey of the painting and sculpture of the period 1870 to 1907. A filming technique has been evolved, particularly suitable for showing in schools, whereby short instalments of information are followed by long sections without narration, designed to capture the spirit of each style that has been discussed. This conveys dramatically the visual qualities of the major artists involved. The specially composed music draws viewers into even deeper involvement with what they see. Film sequences include: Degas, Cézanne, Monet, Neo-Impressionists, Pointillism, Seurat, Gauguin, Van Gogh, the Nabis, Picasso, Matisse, Rousseau, the Fauves. |
