The earliest beginnings of western civilization, five thousand years ago in Mesopotamia, are explored in these films shot on location in present-day Iraq. Spectacular images of ancient sites and museum treasures reveal the Sumerian kingdom of Ur, the fortress-temple town of Hatra and the legendary city of Babylon; one film focuses on the Assyrian era through the life of King Assurnasirpal, and another follows the story of Islamic architecture.
