True to Life: Painter for All Seasons

As well as showing sharp insight into the good and evil of his times, Bruegel was a genius as a painter. This second part of the Bruegel story investigates his highly original way of painting, his feeling for composition, his brushwork, and his use of color. His style is as complex as life itself, making his work a documentary of the village and at the same time universal. Particular attention is paid to the landscapes which fill Bruegel's paintings. The second part concentrates on The Parable of the Blind, The Return of the Herd, The Conversion of Paul, The Magpie on the Gallows and The Gloomy Day.
