This was the most famous school of architecture, craftsmanship and design in modern times, and has had a huge influence on art-school education all over the world. In its early days it was in Weimar, Germany (it later moved twice and was closed down by the Nazis in 1933). George Adams was a student during the Weimar period. He discusses the attitude of the students toward their work, prevailing trends in art, and their famous tutors, who included Itten and van Doesburg. Some rare artefacts made at the Bauhaus during the early 1920s are also displayed and studied, including tea sets, textiles, silverware and furniture; part of the Bauhaus's importance was that it did not draw back from tackling the problems of mass- production.
