There was a group of painters in Victorian times fascinated by classical themes. Alma-Tadema portrayed day-to-day life in ancient Greece and Rome, whereas Moore saw his paintings as color compositions for which a title would be inappropriate. GF Watts painted superb portraits of great figures of the day - and murky abstractions of his own favorite themes. All won great honors, but Lord Leighton was the first painter to become a peer. Christopher Wood guides the viewer through this school of Victorian painters.
